Can They Stay or Will They Go? Weighing the Decision for NCAA Athletes

Should NCAA athletes receive extra eligibility after COVID-19 halting athletics?

To me, this case is pretty simple. Spring athletes should 100% be given additional eligibility to compensate for this lost season. Many student-athletes' sports careers were cut off before they expected, which is unfair to these young men and women who have worked so hard to get to where they are. Playing collegiate athletics is a big feat, but the pros are even harder to make. So why should so many athletes be forced to either end their playing careers prematurely or have their opportunities to get a shot in the pros be limited? Spring athletes deserve an additional year of eligibility to complete or continue their NCAA experience on their original track.

Another argument is that Winter athletes deserve additional eligibility due to many of their seasons being cut short. While I am devastated as much as the next guy about March Madness being canceled, I find it hard to justify giving this group of student-athletes a whole extra year of competing when their season wasn't fully (or even close to fully) cancelled. My heart breaks for those whose college careers and maybe playing careers over, it really is a tragic scenario, but I don't think that it makes a lot of sense for the NCAA to grant additional eligibility to Winter athletes.
